Welcome to the New NASCAR
Finally NASCAR got it right, the new race format really will knock it out of the park this year. WINS are what matters. PERIOD. Now winning will matter more than ever, in the quest to win the Championship. Races now will be broken into two stages, winner of each stage will receive 10 points and winner of the race will earn 40 points on top of that so there is the potential to win 60 points any given week. There will also be no bonus point to leading a lap, wins are what counts. The regular season winner will carry 15 points over to the playoffs (no longer the chase) 10 for 2nd and goes down to 1 for the rest of the playoff field. For driver that try to play it safe and qualify for the playoffs wont work this anymore. This season will be more cut throat, more passing, more bumping, more moving, more tempers, more altercations. The Busch brothers are going to thrive in this setting, considering they were willing to crash one another for the all-star race. Every race will have big implications. This will be the ultimate treat for the fans. For the drivers that will do anything for a win, they will now more than ever need that mindset with everyone needing to win. I don’t see how anyone could be upset by these rule changes especially people who attend a race like Chicagoland where passing is non existent and playing it safe is the way to go will become a shootout! NASCAR made a huge move, and the fans should LOVE it. Kudos to the people who made this happen.
