The upstanding citizens that are in the NFL Hall of Fame
With the almost impending doom of the 2nd best wide out in the history of the NFL having trouble getting into the hall of fame ever according to Peter King, this got me thinking about current hall of famers that have had some problems. These problems are way way outside of just not liking the guy in the case of T.O. These problems come from drugs, stabbing people, and other things that should have put these athletes behind bars. Which will make me thing that the way these guys get voted into the HOF is just wrong but that is for another discussion. For your lunchtime viewing pleasure here are the craziest stories about current Hall of Famers.
There are only a few people you can start with when you are getting into this discussion and he felt like the right person to kick this off. There are really two big big transgressions that Irvin did that in compared to T.O. should have never even been considered for the hall of fame. The first is the widely know stripper and cocaine incident. The WR was caught in a room after noise complaints from other guests in the hotel. When police burst into the room they found two topless strippers, former teammate Alfredo Roberts, and more than 10 grams of cocaine. If you were wondering what that looks like here is 14 grams.
So a shitload.
The other fun incident that I’m guessing most people don’t know about is when Michael stabbed a teammate in the neck with a pair of scissors. It happened at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, during training camp in 1998. It happened between Michael and Everett McIver. As the Story goes McIver cut in front of Irving to get his hair cut at the facility so he proceeded to stab him in the neck.
Dick Dent part of the monsters of the midway. In 1988 rumors swirled around the league that he was getting heavy into doing coke. It was the 80’s, so much so that they surprised drug tested him which he refused to do and got banned from the team’s facilities for 30 days. He is the reason why the leagues drug testing got so strict today.
Warren Sapp was crazy. He was just on the cusp of their being social media. I’m sure there would have been a ton of stories of his playing days that would have been amazing. The one that sticks out for me during his playing days was the biggest cheap shot in the history of sports that ended a guys career.
He also was charged in 2010 for domestic battery the first time he beat the crap out of his girlfriend. After he was inducted into the hall he was arrested again for the same but this time he bit her and was stomping on her head.
The LB that revolutionized the position to what it is today. He was also a savage. He admitted too and tested positive for cocaine in 1987 and in 1988 was suspended for 30 days for testing positive a second time. After he was done playing he was arrested twice more for cocaine possession. In an interview he admitted to actually sending prostitutes to opposing players hotel rooms to try to tire them out.
That is just four. I could go on all day finding these absolute crazy people doing just stupid things with prostitutes, drugs and being accused of killing people ( looking at you Ray Lewis ). But when the only reason for you not getting in is people don’t like you. The hall of fame doesn’t have the 2nd best wide receive ever then it will just be a building with a bunch of dudes in it wear the ugliest jackets they could find.
