UFC 209 Let’s go !!!
Crappy news came today. It broke that Khabib is out vs Ferguson. Nurmagomedov was brought to the hospital today for what I’m guessing pure exhaustion from the weight cut. It’s been tagged as a weight management issue. This was a fight I couldn’t wait to see. It made the whole card for me. Both fighters have world beater status now and would have been great to see if Ferguson would have tarnished Khabib’s record.
There is some talk about a stand in from Michael Johnson but nothing is yet made official.
With the fight completely cancelled this card is still a really good one. Here are the fights that I’m still pumped to see.
Alistair Overeem vs. Mark Hunt
Does everyone feel bad for Mark Hunt like I do? There is actually news out there saying UFC is forcing him to fight Alistair. I wish that the Lesnar fight wouldn’t have happened so we wouldn’t have had all the backlash.
This is the fight that is kicking off the pay – per – view. Both fighter’s records don’t really light up the screen anymore but are still fun to watch. Alistair’s last fight was for the title where he got knocked out by Stipe. Overeem before that fight was getting back to killer status. He has looked way too good of late with putting together a better strategy of fighting, since he can’t be the hulk anymore. This fight with Hunt might be a little trap for him. Mark Hunt has a nuclear bomb for a fist. Last time I looked Alistair really doesn’t have a chin.
Hunt KO 2nd round.
Rashad Evans vs. Dan Kelly
I can’t even remember the last time Rashad has fought it seems so long ago. He just is made of glass these days. This to me is a tune of fight for him. Dan is 39 years old. I know a hump fest when I smell one in this fight.
Nothing is going to surprise me in this fight with basically two old men going at it. Evans is 37 now and way past his prime. I think that Evans is still way to good and will take advantage of it.
Tyron Woodley vs Stephen Thompson
This is a very exciting fight and really has to be. UFC really needs to get back on track here. The last couple pay – per – views haven’t been screaming watch me to casual fans. This fight is the natural conclusion for both fighters being at the top of their games right now. Their first fight was so close. There was no other way but to do it again.
Woodley needs to do one thing to win this fight. Take down Thompson. If he can do this he will win. Tyron should have worked on nothing but catching the kicks of Stephen and going for the take down. Thompson’s kicks are his whole arsenal right now. I think Woodley learned a lot from the first fight. I can’t see him making any mistakes in this one. He will not let Wonderboy do this thing this time.
Woodley, Decision again
