CBS and FOX trying to give Tony Romo a mercy job
We have some sources that are telling Adam Schefter that CBS is going after Tony Romo. The same sources are also saying that Fox is interested in the Dallas Cowboys quarterback. They are looking for a replacement for John Lynch. The Cowboys, who still are holding on to Romo, were expected to release him March 9th. For salary cap purposes everyone in the world knows that the Cowboys are going to release Romo. If they don’t then I’m actually going to start believing that Tony and Jerry Jones are in fact dating. There would be no other rational explanation for him not getting released.
Pushed into retirement
The only team that I think he has a chance with is the Broncos. That is still after he gets released by the Cowboys. I don’t know how you sweeten the deal for anyone to take Tony Romo’s contract. He turns 37 years old next month so there is that too. Tony really hasn’t had too many full playing seasons in a while. If anyone would actually entertain him playing the Broncos would be it. They still have the defense that could get them deep in the playoffs. If I was running the team I’m still starting the young guys for experience and to see what you have with them. Trevor Simeon has a way bigger upside at his young age than a 37-year-old who broke his back last year.
What would be the Cowboys smart move?
The only rational thing that the Cowboys can do is release Tony. For 2017 alone Mr. Romo will be making $14 million dollars. That is the total amount of money the Cowboys would lose if they cut or he retires. The $14 million would also be the amount of money the other team would pay if they wanted to trade for the 37-year-old QB. This puts the Dallas team in an almost no brainer situation. If Tony were to play out his total contract with the Cowboys he would be getting a total of $54 million.
