NFL trying to get more viewers on Thursday Night Football thru Amazon
We have a big move by Amazon. They are going to start live streaming broadcasts of Thursday Night Football games. The huge retail giant has spent a boatload of money getting content for the subscription video service to try to rival Netflix. Now they have the rights for NFL games too.
Amazon looks to have outbid twitter by $10 million bringing the price to $50 million for the service. The games will be simulcast on the NFL network and maybe CBS or NBC if they pick up these awful games.
They big change from doing this with twitter and Amazon is the company is a subscription service. Twitter was free to use by anyone. The games will only be visible by amazon prime members. The $50 million dollar price take was just a drop in the bucket compared Twitter who is struggling to get revenue.
Twitter was ecstatic last year to get this deal but with horrible football and dropping ratings, I would bet there wasn’t much return on investment. When the renewal came around they just don’t have the money to even make a real play at it.
Now the NFL is getting closer to that $25 billion dollar revenue goal that Rodger Goodell is going toward.
