T.O. The Begining of The WR position.
I left T.O. out on purpose when I was bitching about the hall of fame. There just wasn’t enough room on the page to fully explain what T.O. meant to the game of football. Terrell Owens was the first mold of what a wide receiver is today and it doesn’t make any sense to me how he was not a first ballet Hall of Famer. Here is what T.O. did in the game.
First of all TO was 6’3 and about 230 lbs. To me besides Dave Boston at the time, He was the start of the monster wide outs that you see in the game today. He started out his career with the 49ers where he had almost 1000 yrds his rookie season after Jerry Rice went down with an Acltear ( some will get the joke ). He caught the game winning touchdown that would put the 49ers over the Packers in the 1998 wild card round. He ultimately played for San Francisco from 1996-2003. If there wasn’t a thing as the stat machine Jerry Rice he would have been the all time leader at the wide receiver position for the 49ers with almost 9,000 yards and 81 touchdowns.
With all the fun controversy surrounding him by now he went to the Eagles. Where on a broken freaking leg in the SuperBowl caught the ball 9 times for a total of 122 yards. On a Broken LEG. It was an amazing game to watch except for the last like 3 minutes where Donovan McNabb literally pooped down his leg. This is where his mouth got into play a little bit. After this he had some choice words with the Management and for McNabb after wanting more money. Which he was rightly deserved being the best Wide Out in football in my opinion. This talking back to management cost him the whole 2005 season and was shipped to the Cowboys.
During his first game as a Cowboy he caught 8 balls for 80 yards and 1 touchdown. He also broke the shit out of his finger and needing surgery. T.O. was so intent in getting back before they played Philadelphia that he overdosed on pain killers. After the bye week he came back, just wild. With that jacked up finger he led the league in touch downs. In 2006 he set a record of being the only player to catch a touch down and have at least 6 receptions in 7 straight games.
2009 at the age of 35 he cracked the top 20 receivers of all time and became the oldest player to have a touch down of over 76 yards with the Bills. He Also is one of only six players to have over 1,000 receptions.
Terrell Owens ended his career with 1078 receptions for 15,934 which puts him at second all time, we know who is first, and 153 Touchdowns. Stat wise he is the second best receiver of all time. and he played for 15 years. If you were going to say about any player that was in the wrong time it was him. He will always be known more about his fun sideline celebrations for what started this bullshit the NFL has against them. He was a great player to watch and stat wise there is no way to justify against him being a first ballot. I guess you have to be a good guy like Terrell Davis to get in after only playing 7 seasons and not even cracking 10,000 yards rushing. Now we have two things here for the NFL HOF, ohio totally blows and the best players to the only HOF that matters don’t get in.
