Georgetown making a good move, Patrick Ewing to interview for HC vacancy
Patrick Ewing is really the main reason why Georgetown was ever a powerhouse at college basketball. It only makes sense that after they have just been horrible of late to bring him back. After the dismissal of John Thompson III, you have to bring in some juice to the program. As reported Ewing who is 54 will interview for the head coaching job today in Washington.
Assistant head coach in the NBA for multiple teams
I feel like people don’t know that Patrick Ewing has been coaching in the NBA for a long time now. He is currently the Associate head coach to the Charlotte Hornets under Steve Clifford. Besides his current team, he has served on multiple teams with really fun head coaches. Pat has worked under both Van Gundy’s as well as Clifford for over a decade now as an assistant. Other than his top fifty ever status in the NBA he now has the chops to coach it too.
Patrick Ewing the recruiter
The toughest part of him making the jump would be the recruiting aspect. jIt’s not the actual act it’s getting started that I think he might have trouble with. The main thing he would have to do at the beginning would be to surround himself with coaches that know the AAU. These young kids there would take one look at Ewing maybe swing to the Georgetown side but he still will have to compete with the powerhouses that are Kentucky, Duke, and UNC.
This could be his shot to run a program. With his son Patrick Ewing Jr. already on the Georgetown staff, this seems to be a great fit for everyone.
