A look at the new Chicago Bears Defensive end Jaye Howard
The Chicago Bears went out and added depth to their defensive end position in Jaye Howard with a one year prove it deal that could be a great move
The Chicago Bears got deep at the defensive end position this offseason. I believe it’s going under the radar the upgrades that the Bears are going to put out there on this season. One guy that they picked up with a one-year contract is Jaye Howard. He is on a prove it deal and could really make this defensive line special.
Jaye Howard was actually selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft. With the depth of the Seahawks, it doesn’t come of a surprise that he didn’t get much or any playing time with the club. There was just no one he was going to start over so the Seahawks released him after his rookie season.
Jaye Howard was claimed off waivers by the Chiefs the very next day he was released. Howard signed a two-year deal with the Chiefs where he started to figure out the NFL. In his third year, Jaye managed to get 57 tackles and five sacks upping his production. In the 2016 season, he was placed on injured reserve because of a hip injury. Early in May, he signed with the Chicago Bears.
What we do know of him is that he is a run stopper. PFF has him second in the league in run stop percentage. The 6’1″ 300 pound very athletic and strong lineman will fit right in line with Fangio’s defense. When healthy the team up with Eddie Goldman and Akiem Hicks can make this defensive line very dangerous for the Chicago Bears.
