Connor Shaw cut by the Chicago Bears to make a roster spot for Victor Cruz
To make room for an aging wide receiver, the Chicago Bears cut ties with Connor Shaw giving him the time to get resigned during the summer
The Bears officially added Victor Cruz to the roster, so they had to make room for him.
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Bears completed the transaction by waiving quarterback Connor Shaw.
Shaw didn’t play last year because of a broken leg, and they’ve since added free agents Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez and No. 2 overall pick Mitchell Trubisky to the mix, so he was surplus to requirements anyway.
It was no surprise to me when I saw this headline. Connor Shaw even though I like him didn’t have a chance to make this Chicago Bears roster. With Shaw, the Bears had four QBs, so one had to go. I think that we all remember that Connor had one hell of a preseason last year but got a broken leg. I would even go as far as saying during last preseason he was one of the real bright spots.
The move will help Shaw in the long run by giving him a chance to make an NFL roster. The Chicago Bears did him an actual favor by doing this so early in OTAs.
