Cowboys sign another guy using a walker to a four year deal, Jason Witten
The four-year deal that Jason Witten just signed will max out at $29.6 million dollars. The newly signed deal doesn’t guarantee any money but more of a stability action. Both sides now know that he will be a Cowboy for life. Now Jason Witten turns 35 years old in May. This season was the final year of his deal. Witten was drafted by the Cowboys in 2003 so this guy has been in the league forever.
Cowboys front office doing two different things
I will say that Jason Witten is arguably a top 10 tight end of all time. Jason has the most passes caught ever in a Cowboy uniform. That isn’t anything to just dismiss even if he has played for a billion years. Thirteen more catches and he will be top five ever, passing Cris Carter. That is hard for me to even wrap my head around. Not really showing any signs of slowing down he caught 69 ( : ‘/ ) passes for 673 yards and three touchdowns last year. You have the makings of getting very young and good for a long time. Why keep old pieces and do what you should in the draft. Get yourself a top TE talent there are several great ones in the first round that can catch and block.
What you will do for a legend
You could go on about him being a huge leader in the clubhouse or something but he could do the same as a coach. Cowboys fans have to know that they need to think about the future in this position. The deal can be ended anytime I would hope but they really should be in line for a tight end at the end of the 1st round. An upgrade would be just what they need in that offense. Let’s just hope that the coach isn’t as sentimental as the owner for what you should do during spring training. A tight end at 35 even with a good year last year isn’t a great option.
