In honor of the Robin Lopez and Serge Ibaka fight, here are great basketball fights
There is nothing like a basketball fight. In the Chicago Bulls loss yesterday to the Toronto Raptors a little bit of a skirmish happened. The fight that broke out involved the Bulls center Robin Lopez and Raptors Serge Ibaka. The two players got a little tangled up after the Bulls made a basket. After some shoving, both players threw punches before people from both teams broke it up. Now basketball fights are very rare but sometimes when they happen they can get wild. Most of the time they get stopped right away, but sometimes they really get going. Here are my favorite basketball fights.

Shawn Bradley vs. Walt Williams
The first one is not that much of a doozy but people forget Shawn Bradley got into a fight in the NBA. Shawn really threw a sneaky elbow that caught Walt Williams right on the side of the head. Williams wasted absolutely no time punching The Storming Mormon right in the mouth getting kicked out immediately.
Larry Johnson vs. Alonzo Mourning
I feel like back in the 90’s a fight could have broken out in every single game. This was the funniest moment for me in an NBA game. Jeff Van Gundy holding onto Alonzo Mournings let is the most pathetic looking man in history. It’s like a small white man taking on a dinosaur with how bit Alonzo is compared to him. Plus you have a Charles Oakley sighting.
Kermit Washington vs. Tomjanovich’s jaw
This one is a hard one to watch. It took place in 1977 between the Lakers and the Rockets. A shoving match occurred and Kermit Washington saw a player from the opposing team running towards him out of the corner of his eye. Rudy Tomjanovich was that player trying to stop the fight. The results of the punch from hell included a fractured skull, broken nose, broken jaw, and minor leakage of spinal fluid.
Kevin Garnett Head-butts Dwight Howard
Every minute that Kevin Garnet was on the court felt like he was going to get into a fight. Dwight Howard is the ultimate hold me back guy. Being as big as Dwight is you would figure he could clean house but that is not the case.
1994 Bulls vs. Knicks playoff brawl
In the 90’s at the time the Bulls vs. Knicks were an equivalent to Yankees vs Red Sox in my mind. These two teams played some great playoff series. This battle started off when Derek Harper body slammed Jo Jo English into oblivion.
The Malice in the Palace
When your fight has a title you know it was a ridiculous one. It all came together in the final minutes when Ben Wallace shoved Ron Artest in the Face. The amount of crazy that happened in this fight surprised me they let Ron ever come back into the NBA. He caused a damn riot after he went after the guy who threw beer on him. There were all sorts of players ten rows up in the stands and fans coming onto the court to throw punches. It’s the most memorable fight I remember seeing.
