Jimmy Johnson gets his 7th win at Texas Motor Speedway
With some late heroics, Jimmy Johnson held off Kyle Larson and Joey Logano to win at the Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday. This is Jimmy’s first win in the 2017 Nascar series in Fort Worth, Texas. It marks the 7th time that Jimmy Johnson has won in Texas.
“I guess I remembered how to drive, and I guess this team remembered how to do it,” said Johnson, who had only one top-10 finish this season coming in. “I’m just real proud of this team. What a tough track, tough conditions. But it’s really in our wheelhouse and we were just able to execute all day.”

If you are a fan the guy you feel sorry for after this race is Ryan Blaney. He had a heck of a car and Led 148 laps at the Texas Motor Speedway. Ryan Blaney took first place after the first two stages. Before today’s race, Blaney had only lead in a combined 33 laps in his first 60 starts of the year so this was a big moment for him. But often with a guy that isn’t used to being up there, of course, a mess up cost him the race. The decision to not go into the pits while there was a caution before the end of stage 2 found Ryan Blaney in a pickle during the beginning of stage three. During the caution between stages, he then pitted and found himself restarting in the 20th position.
“Not a bad day for us,” he said, according to Menzer. “It’s nice to win a couple segments, but I want to lead the last lap. That’s the lap I care about, but I thought we made a big gain today as a team.”
Jimmy Johnson really took over the race with 17 laps remaining. He was in a little bit of a struggle with Joey Logano, but Johnson’s car was just running too fast at the Texas Motor Speedway.

Just to show how good Johnson’s car was on Sunday he started the third stage in 22nd place. When it was time for him to pit with only 61 laps remaining in the race, he got his car all the way to second place.
