Mount Carmel Guy Alek Thomas going to TCU
Tale of the Tape:
We have ourselves a three sport athlete from the area folks. A junior in high school, Alex has decided to take his talents to TCU in hopes to play football and baseball. On an unscheduled trip to the school it really looks like it sealed the deal. Playing the two sports was a big deal for him but also was going to TCU. They have made several trips to the college world series and has pumped out some major leaguers such as Jake Arrieta.
“I think I found a good place to call home in the near future,” Thomas said. “The coaching staff really caught my eye. The facilities are great and a lot of great players and big league players come out of TCU. They just prepare you for the major leagues.”
“On the football side, I have a good relationship with offensive coordinator Coach (Sonny) Cumbie, and they were on board with playing two sports. Some schools are iffy about that but they were 100 percent on board and that really caught my eye.”
He has some pretty good stats as a sophomore as you would expect getting recruited pretty heavy. He batted .394 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs with a .432 OBP and .725 slugging percentage. He had 7 doubles and 5 triples and scored 46 runs. Thomas has hit 19 homers in his varsity career.
Here are some highlights of him as a sophomore playing baseball :
