MLB Hall of Fame a Bastion of Upstanding Citizens
Today at the Sox convention Frank Thomas had some interesting words about the eventual inductions into the HOF of PED users. He said
“They should be in now, as far as I’m concerned,” Thomas said. “They’ve let a few people in already we all know. It’s uncomfortable at this point. I’m sure this year’s going to be uncomfortable because we’ve got two great players going in, but they know. It’s no secret. If they didn’t do it, they would be stomping and kicking and in interviews saying, ‘I didn’t do it.'”
Also he said”Trust me, there’s a lot of internal talk going on,” he said. “A lot of guys that I respect that are real, true Hall of Famers, all they have is their legacy. They didn’t make this kind of money. … They’re not happy about this at all.”
This got me thinking. I wonder if there are members of the Hall of Fame already inducted that do not represent this integrity and moral fortitude that Frank and other Hall of Famers speak of. There have been books written of the scum that has been inducted. Here are just a few of the fun ones.
You know of course I would start up with this guy. Anyone that follows baseball his stories are pretty legendary how big of a racist asshole he was and what’s funny is that there are just as many people that defend him which doesn’t make sense. Ty Cobb once was beating up a black guy for who knows what reason the man’s wife tried to step in and stop the fight and he started beating on her. That is just the start. He has been implicated in throwing games for money a few times. He also has spoke at KKK rallies. A real good guy to be mentioned in the same breath would make me sick. He was almost a unanimous selection getting 222 out of 226.
He wrote a book about how he cheated in baseball, while still playing baseball. We all might love this guy but facts are facts. In his career which pretty much started in 64 had not been caught till 82 and everyone knew what he was doing even during his playing career.
This guy I’m going to guess not too many people are going to recognize but he is enshrined into the MLB HOF. Kenesaw was the first commissioner of baseball. He was brought in during the 1920 season right after that whole throwing the world series stuff going on by the Black Sox. He held the position until 1944. He did some good things of note. Started up the minor leagues and he also came up with the idea for the world series and all star games Also the MVP award is named after this guy. But Kenesaw Mountain Landis was also the main guy stopping black baseball players from getting into the Major Leagues. At the time the media called this guy the big Czar of baseball. J.G. Taylor Spink’s Judge Landis and twenty-five years of baseball and I quote
“One extremely hot night, a group of reporters were awaiting a jury verdict in the famous Beef Trust trial. The court was not in session, and Landis was out getting a sandwich. The reporters sat down in the marble hallway, the nearest thing to a cool spot they could find. Landis came back and brusquely ordered the men off the floor. Lait didn’t jump up, which exasperated the Judge. ‘I told him that court wasn’t in session, and that he was off base,’ recalled Jack. ‘What’s more I told him I liked it where I was. Landis couldn’t do anything about it at the time; he fumed and fussed, and next day he called up my boss and demanded I be fired.’”
So this guy was Also a huge Dick too. He never would really comment on why he was keeping this color barrier just did nothing. This man stopped players like Satchel Page from giving us the extreme joy of real baseball back in the day. Side note I don’t believe the Major League baseball existed until 1947 when Jackie Robinson got into the league. People tell me that there was some guys playing but I don’t believe them.
One of the most famous stadium names in history and what I will call where the White Sox play till the day I die. Besides being an eventual owner he had a pretty accomplished winning record as a manager going 840-541. But I would be remiss if I didn’t include him for the Black Sox scandal. There was some evidence found by reporters that he knew all about the world series flop his players were about to do. He just couldn’t stop them because he didn’t want to lose his best 8 players on his ball club. Then this man was part of throwing a World Series game. That is so crazy to me, I can’t even imagine that happening now ( looking at you NBA).
So I could go on and on with this list of lets just say deplorables. There are wife beaters, guys that would intentionally throw at guys heads (Bob Gibson) and I haven’t even brought up the fact that everyone in the 80’s and 90’s was taking amphetamines. So lets get off your moral high ground there Frank before something comes out about your polished look.
