Lackey getting his first start but Cubs go down to Italy’s WBC team 8-7
“I kind of have a routine of what I do the first start, second start. The last two starts before the season, I’ll pitch with everything and go get ’em. It’s a good one to keep moving forward on,” Lackey said.
The 38 year old man is playing in his 15th season this year. Lackey gave up one hit in two innings which was a two out single to Alex Liddi in the Second. Lackey is a pro and knows that this was a stretch out game not even looking at the radar or pitch count.
The rest of the Cubs took it a little easy by design on team Italy. They got out to a quick 6-1 lead on the Cubs until the 6th inning. Their bats woke up and they drove in 6 runns. AAA Iowa bats let by Taylor Davis and Chris Domingues.
Taylor Davis part of the all Rod Beck team, smoked a home run to help the Cubs get back into this game. Italy grabbed two runs in the 9th off Jake Buchanan which won them the game.
Pedro Strop, the newly signed Cub, had a ruff outing which really doesn’t matter. He didn’t even get to finish an inning letting up three runs. He only got one out in the third with two walks and three hits.
Addison Russel got back in the game after sitting out two days with a bruise on his left elbow after getting hit by a pitch. Russel didn’t waste any time and got a single with an error that got him to second base.
We have prospects everywhere. The outfield prospect for the Cubs John Andreoli had himself a day for team Italy.
He got a walk and a single out to center. Both times getting on base he scored runs.
Next game up is actually on Thursday against the Mariners at 2:05 ct.
