The Jay Cutler era is finally over
Just now Adam Shefter is reporting out that the Bears are releasing Jay Cutler. Jay has every single passing record with the Bears organization. But the big knock on him will be only getting to the playoffs one time in eight years. People will blame the coaching rotation or the at least the offensive coordinator rotation for his shortcomings.
Jay is turning 34 this year and only played 5 games last season. He had a mixture of thumb and shoulder injuries that kept him sidelined. Jay had a torn labrum he had surgery on last December.
I don’t know what else you can say about this. There are people in Chicago that either love Jay Cutler or the other half that thinks those people are stupid. Jay was the best quarterback that the Bears have ever seen. I think where it went wrong was when he went out of the NFC Championship game with a knee injury. A lot of people saw him as not being tough.
He might be one of the last real gunslinger left in the NFL posting a horrible 109 interceptions in 102 games with the Bears. Protecting the football is all that matters now. At this point it was a divorce waiting to happen so the news wasn’t a surprise to anyone.
