Get to know a guy Falcons coach Dan Quinn
With gearing up for the Superbowl I though I would do a profile on Dan Quinn. This will help some people get to know the guy a bit more because it seems like he came out of no where.
Quinn being a New Jersey native he attended Salisbury State University, a DIII school in Maryland and I’m going to say a ridiculous sounding school name. As you can see we this logo lazy as well.
It looks like an Eagle mixed with Donald Duck. Mascot is named Sammy the Sea Gull. I went to a few colleges before I figured out that school sucks. One of them the mascot was a beaver and I thought that was stupid.
At Salisbury Quinn was a 4 year starter at Defensive linemen. He also was a Hammer thrower where he actually got a record. Dan was a two year captain of both sports and I’m assuming was the dick head on campus. This guy is actually into the Salisbury HOF which I’m assuming is a room built for him.
Dan started his coaching career at William and Mary in 1994 and soon took the job as defensive line coach for Virginia Military Institute where I’m guessing he got his look from. He worked his way from there getting experience at the Institute to then because the defensive quality control coach for the 49ers in 2001. I’m just going to say that job is completely made up for a friend. What that person does is basically chart tenancies from other teams. Using it you can try to figure out what play they most likely will run given the down, distance, and situation. Real nerd job.
Quinn did that job for two years before he started the coaching carousel. He made stops as defensive line coach at 49ers, Miami, and the Jets. Then he got some experience with the Florida Gators being their defensive coordinator for two years then shot up to become the same position with the Seahawks in 2013.
His first season as coordinator for the Seahawks he lead the defense to an amazing year leading the league in fewest points allowed, yards allowed and take aways. Lets just be honest that team’s defense was stacked and you talk about being in the right place. Which he obviously parlayed into winning a SuperBowl. Which for me the Falcons are basically the same as the Seahawks in terms of how I feel about them. I don’t care at all. The only player I ever really liked from either team was Steve Largent and Steve Deberg.
That would bring us to his current job he acquired in 2015, the Falcons. He has basically flipped the franchise in a year going 8-8 last year.
