Cubs rundown from the Cleveland game.
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) February 26, 2017
Sunday was a pitchers duel with a 1-1 tie in the World Series rematch. It’s really good to see Matt Szczur starting out hot in spring training driving in 3 runs so far in the first two games. The cubs used 8 pitchers in this game with only the starter Jake Buchanan going for multiple innings.
The fun story was the debut of one of the top prospects for the Cubs Eloy Jimenez going 1-2 with a single.
Jimenez is only 20 and he was signed out of the DR in 2013. There he hit .329 with 40 doubles, 14 home rungs, 81 RBI’s and a .901 OPS in his first minor league season in South Bend in 2016. He will one day be a staple in our outfield or trade bait for another starting pitcher but either way.
As above you can see the Javier Baez is already making ridiculous plays. I’d like to see Baez grow a little bit more this year behind the plate to match his great defensive play.
The only other take away from the weekend is Jason Heyward still hasn’t gotten a hit and went 0-2 with a walk against Cleveland. It’s still super early obviously so I’m very anxious to see how all the work he put in to his swing will work out or not.
The next game the Cubs will play is today at 2:05 against the White Sox. Brett Anderson will be taking the mound for his Cubs debut.
