Chicago Cubs’ Infielder Jeimer Candelario named minor league player of the month and RHP Dylan Cease named pitcher of the month
Jeimer Candelario and Dylan Cease were rewarded today for their great play in the Chicago Cubs Minor League organizations
Jeimer Candelario has been on a terror of late in the AAA minor league team for the Chicago Cubs. Everyone is talking about how awesome Ian Happ is but people forget about the other stud players that the Cubs have in the Minor Leagues. In his 81 at bats, Candelario has a .443 OBP with four home runs and 21 RBI’s. The third baseman today was named minor league player of the month. Candelario hit .306 with 15 XBH and 18 RBIs in the month of April.
The right-handed pitcher out of the South Bend Cubs AA squad, Dylan Cease won minor league pitcher of the month. Cease who is only 21 posted a 1.90 ERA in his five starts in April. He allowed one home run and 15 walks while striking out 37. If you are a stat nerd that is 14.1 strikeouts per 9 innings. The opposing batting average against Dylan Cease is .177. In all of his starts, he has allowed one or no runs while striking out seven or more in four of his last five outings.
Love to see Minor League pitching coming into their own. In the next few years, the Chicago Cubs are going to need help on the major league club so seeing them taking a step forward should make all the fans happy.
