Recap: The Chicago Bulls did exactly what we thought and beat the Celtics on the road 106-102
The Chicago Bull’s got big play from Bobby Portis and Jimmy Butler as they pull out the win over the Celtics 106-102 taking game one of the series.
The Chicago Bulls went right into the Garden and played like they should have against the Celtics. The Bulls are a matchup nightmare for the Celtics and It really showed last night. Even with the Bulls shooting like crap for most of the game, they are still going to most likely win because the opposing teams best player is 5’9″ point guard and that’s just not going to cut it. Jimmy Butler did just what he always said he would do and that’s but the team on his shoulders and he did just that.
“The shots actually went in,” Butler, with a team high 30 points. “(Rajon Rondo) was continuing to tell me to be aggressive, shoot the ball and I did just that. I think that’s what my team needs for me to do; make or miss, make sure we get a shot up.”
The game was overshadowed by Isiah Thomas and the tragic death of his sister on Saturday. It’s amazing that this guy even played the game but he also had an amazing game scoring 33 points and getting 12 in the fourth quarter. Most of the fourth quarter the whole garden was chanting MVP at him when he was shooting free throws. It was a good moment after a horrible event.
In the first quarter, the Chicago Bulls withstood the emotional play of Boston that only saw them down 28-23 in the first quarter. Robin Lopez had the hot hand early on scoring 10 points and nabbing five rebounds. Lopez ended up with 11 total rebounds and eight of them were on the offensive side of the ball. The edge that the Bulls had in rebounding was staggering and what really won them this game. They dominated on the boards with a 53-36 edge. The Celtics seemed to not even try to get offensive boards the whole night.
Jimmy in the first half only made two of six, which just shows how good the bulls bench played being up 48-46 at halftime. That bench play was really all on Bobby Portis who played out of his mind in the game. He tallied 19 points and led the Bulls reserves’ edge over the Celtics 35-22.
The Bulls really tried to make it interesting at the end of the game though. It looked like they were trying to find ways to lose with six fourth quarter turnovers. At the end, it made it really interesting.
This series is far from over but it still was a fun first game. If the Celtics don’t find an answer soon we might really be looking at one of the worst 1 seeds of all time.
I think I would be an asshole if I didn’t put in Dwayne Wade’s missed dunk
