BlackHawks make two moves in the last 24 hours
The first move that the Hawks made is trading AHL forwards Spencer Abbott and Sam Carrick to the Ducks for prospect Kenton Helgesen and a 7th round pick. It happened right at the Deadline yesterday. Abbot and Carrick were both signed last summer and were both main parts of the Rockford team this season.
Abbot was leading the team with scoring with 15 goals and 20 assists. Carrick was tied for second in points with 28. Neither player was really going to make it to Chicago and they were both going to be free agents this summer.
Helgesen is a 22 year old defenseman. He was drafted in the seventh round in 2012. He has been playing left win for the Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL. Nothing really exciting here . I think that it was just a dump of free agents for a player but more importantly another draft pick, even if it’s in the 7th round.
The other move the Hawks have made this morning is signing Matthew Highmore to a 3 year deal. He has been playing with he QMJHL Saint John Sea Docks. He was undrafted at the NHL level. In five years with the Sea Dogs he has put up 82 points this year in just 58 games. He is leading the team in scoring by 13 points. Maybe a good young pick up we will see.
