We have another Jason Heyward sighting, Cubs tie Brewers 7-7
Jason Heyward finally got a hit after going 0-8. He got out of this slump by poking a single up the middle in the second inning. Then adding to his already great day, he smoked a double into left-center bringing in Addison Russel to cap off a Cubs‘ four-run third inning. Cub fans will be all over Heyward this season for the hopeful bounce back after having a horrible year in the batter’s box in 2016. Jason Heyward only batted .230 last year with 7 home runs and 49 RBIs. Getting Jason back to his career averages is all he has been working towards this spring training.
5th rotation spot and defensive struggles
Joe Maddon is high on Brett Anderson’s role with the Cubs. Either way, Brett Anderson will be a key piece in the Cubs’ success. He had a rough outing yesterday trying to win that 5th starter spot on the Cubs pitching staff. Brett gave up two runs on six hits over his three innings of work. Mike Montgomery had a rough outing too. He is also competing for the 5th starter spot. Joe gave him six innings also against the Brewers. Montgomery gave up six hits also in his three innings of work. One of those hits was a home run that Eric Thames blasted in the fifth.
The Cubs defense during spring training has also been a problem. There were another two errors in this game that allowed Brewers to cross the plate. The First committed by Bryant who missed the ball and let two runs cross the plate in the fourth. The next was a horrible throwing error by Eloy Jimenez. This throw gave the Brewers the go-ahead run to win the game. The total comes to 16 errors this spring.
Cubs bats continued production
There were another three home runs hit in this game. The Cubs production in the batter’s box continued in this game. Kris Bryant and Willson Contreras each hit home runs on Tuesday. The one that really mattered came in the ninth that tied up the game by Chris Dominguez to force the 7-7 tie. Other than the home runs the cubs had success across the board. Contreras continued his success for the day adding another RBI single. Addison Russell also cleared the bases with a two-run double.
