Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Overnight Friday Snow

Friday will remain a First Alert Action Day ending at midnight. Snow will be likely tonight with lows in the upper 20-low 30s.

The precipitation is expected to arrive by Saturday afternoon or evening and perhaps continue into Sunday afternoon, National Weather Service forecasters said. To the south, snow may mix in with sleet which could slightly lower accumulations in that area.

- FOX 5 is tracking a winter storm system that is expected to bring several inches of snow to the D.C. region over the weekend.

Light snow accumulation appears possible north and west of Raleigh with amounts ranging from a dusting to as much as 2 inches, the highest possibly near the Virginia border.

This won't be like the December event where snow starts full-force.

Due to the potential for a wintry mix and some rain, the snow totals will vary over a small distance.

The National Weather Service will hold a conference call with media and emergency services providers at 10am today to share the latest information. Rain is likely later Saturday through Sunday with snow mixing in for areas closer to Richmond. Much of central IL was forecast to receive 6 to 8 inches. A midwest storm will make headlines, however Michiana will be on the northern edge, with marginal snowfall. That's because the incoming system will be fighting a lot of dry air.

However, some snow may linger into Sunday over eastern portions of the Ohio Valley as the bulk of the storm affects parts of the southern Appalachians and the mid-Atlantic coast.
