Cardinals Finalizing Deal to Hire Kliff Kingsbury as New Head Coach

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, whom at least one national reporter had long pegged as the Packers' next head coach, did interview for the job. As one of the minds behind a consistently good Patriots offense, McDaniels is often a hot commodity on the coaching carousel. He only received two interview requests this offseason from the Green Bay Packers and Cincinnati Bengals.

McDaniels confirmed that he did not speak with the Browns, who have interviewed 7 candidates since last Tuesday for their head coaching job after firing Hue Jackson along with offensive coordinator Todd Haley on October 29, 2017.

He also said he did not speak with the Cleveland Browns about their head coaching vacancy.

Prior to his head-coaching stint in Lubbock, Kingsbury served in an offensive coordinator capacity at Houston (2010-2011) and Texas A&M (2012). Athletic Director Lynn Swann was steadfast in blocking contact from National Football League teams and his star offensive coordinator. "I'm focused on the Chargers and our season, finishing strong and I'll be here moving forward".

"No sir, I have had no contact with them".

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, it will occur Tuesday, a day after meeting with the New York Jets and impressing them. Are you in or out?' We went around for a minute and he said he's out and I said.

Green Bay is the only known interview McDaniels had.

Kingsbury was sacked by Texas Tech after the Red Raiders finished the year 5-7 and missed a bowl game for the third time in the last five years, then hired as USC's offensive coordinator.

McDaniels said he is enjoying his role with New England, and hopes he's growing and will continue to grow in his current role.
