Tottenham boss Pochettino admits Champions League ambitions

Mauricio Pochettino admitted Christian Eriksen's future is largely beyond Tottenham's control as transfer speculation intensifies around the playmaker.

The 26-year-old Denmark worldwide has become a key player for Spurs since arriving in North London from Ajax in 2013.

His current deal expires in 2020, with Real Madrid and Barcelona having shown interest in the past.

"Who knows? I am not a person who suffers too much in this type of situation because football is dynamic", Pochettino told reporters.

"Of course, many in some projects, in some clubs, if you don't win a trophy, you fail". He has four to his name as a player and now as a manager he and has stressed the importance of a good cup run.

"It would be fantastic if Christian commits with the club for a long time. If not, it's his right to do what he wants to do". He is showing his commitment.

If Eriksen decides against a new contract, then Tottenham could choose to sell him in the summer rather than risk losing him on a free next year.

Pochettino appears to be a fan of the Argentinian and he is now establishing himself in the top flight, suggesting that a January move down to the second tier may be off the cards. For me, of course it's important, like for the players and the club, to win a trophy. "At the moment I don't have any news".

"It depends on many things in this business - different parties that have interests".

"But in the end it's a negotiation and there's different parties that have different interests".

"My ambition is to win the Champions League one day with Tottenham or the Premier League, " Pochettino explained according to UK Sun.
