Trump Just Sent an Urgent Message About the Wall

The Democrats plan to vote on six Senate spending bills and a stopgap measure to re-open the Homeland Security Department at its current funding levels until February 8, the aide said. The Senate would not take it up because (Senate Minority Leader) Chuck Schumer would not allow the Democrats to provide the 60 votes necessary to take the bill up for consideration.

Talks have been at a stalemate for more than a week, after Democrats said the White House offered to accept $2.5 billion for border security. I'm ready to go.

Democrats formally take control of the House from Trump's fellow Republicans on Thursday after winning a majority of seats in November's mid-term congressional elections. He also said the compromise should include changes in federal law to discourage people from trying to enter the US illegally. Democrats say that's a no-go.

"It would be the height of irresponsibility and political cynicism for Senate Republicans to now reject the same legislation they have already supported", the leaders said.

Within hours, Trump pushed back on Kelly's comments, tweeting that an "all concrete Wall was NEVER ABANDONED, as has been reported by the media". But like the proposal now on the table, it did not meet Trump's border-wall demands.

White House officials did not reply to an email asking whether the president had been in touch directly with Democratic leaders to set up a round of talks.

Fox News has learned there is a briefing at the White House on Wednesday for the top two leaders of each party from each chamber for the new Congress to discuss the impasse.
