A Power Plant Explosion In NYC Had Everyone Convinced Aliens Were Invading

The New York City sky lit up an electric blue Thursday night, and, surprisingly, not because of aliens.

While many thought it was the same light, that emanates from a UFO hence time for an alien invasion, others believed it was time for a divine intervention, Judgment Day perhaps?

"By the time we were outside, the sky was neon blue and we could see smoke and hear commotion at the power plant". No one was seriously injured, though an employee at the substation reported eye irritation, Con Ed said. InsideEdition.com's Lisa Voyticki reports.

In October 2017, a transformer on Cherry Street blew up with enough force that residents of neighboring Two Bridges apartments said they felt their buildings shake, though no power outages were reported.

Some wondered if aliens had landed.

The weird sight set off a frenzy on social media, where people reported a power failure at LaGuardia Airport.

La Guardia Airport was closed temporarily as the explosion was brought under control.

Police said the blast at the Con Edison facility in Queens led to a fire which is now under control.

"We're now investigating the cause of the incident".

But power had been mostly restored to LaGuardia by 11 p.m. and the airport was resuming normal operations.

"This is a very old and very polluting power plant that should have been shut down quite a while ago", Judith Enck, the former Environmental Protection Agency regional administrator for the state of NY, stated to HuffPost on Thursday. "THE SKY JUST TURNED BLUE???? literally so confused I think aliens just tried to steal NY", one user wrote on Twitter.

Authorities are investigating an apparent power plant explosion.

However, the bright blue beams that lit up the sky certainly caught the attention of nearby residents, who shared the shocking images on Twitter.
