Ex-KC RB Hunt admits to lying about hotel assault

Such is the case with the video that recently emerged of Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt pushing and kicking a 19-year-old woman outside a hotel last February.

"That's my brother", said Spencer Ware, who replaced Hunt as the starting running back.

Hunt led the National Football League in rushing as a rookie with 1,327 yards and scored eight touchdowns in helping Kansas City make the playoffs.

A spokeswoman for Baltimore-based Under Armour (NYSE: UAA) confirmed Saturday morning that the brand "parted ways" with Hunt.

In his first interview since video of the February incident surfaced, Hunt expressed regret over what happened. Based on his age and statistical production compared to other running backs through two seasons, Hunt was projected to receive a four-year contract worth roughly $45 million when he hit the free agent market in 2021, according to calculations by Spotrac, the online sports contract database. He then kicks her and causes her to fall over. Police were called to the scene, but no charges were filed for the February 10 incident.

The NFL and the Chiefs said they could not obtain the video because the police and hotel would not cooperate. "I was in the wrong", Hunt told ESPN.

"(There were) definitely some things that were said and did that I did not like, and that's not an excuse. Ware, who led the Chiefs in rushing in 2016, only to lose the starting job to Hunt last season because of a season-ending knee injury in the preseason, rushed for 47 yards and a touchdown against the Raiders. I'm really disappointed and embarrassed in myself and for my family.

"I regret the entire thing", Hunt said. Hunt and his friends claim that she started yelling racial slurs at them after they asked her to leave when they found out she was under 21 and had been drinking. Kareem was not truthful in those discussions. The NFL then contacted Cleveland police, but the department said Saturday it did not pursue the video because it was not a felony-level case. Hunt has not been charged, NFL.com says.

The NFL has placed Hunt on league Commissioner Roger Goodell's exempt list, meaning he is not allowed to play or attend any NFL games. "The NFL's ongoing investigation will include further attempts to speak to the complainants involved in the incident".
