Amazon Web Services reveals a managed Kafka service for streaming data

A new program to help independent software vendors achieve a number of federal authorizations, including those from the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement, the Criminal Justice Information Services.

CEO Andy Jassy said his company has spent a decent amount of time understanding why customers want blockchain rather than just a database, denying during his AWS re:Invent keynote that AWS was avoiding heading down the distributed ledger path.

AWS Outposts are now in private preview.

The new service will let satellite operators get access to a ground station at short notice on a pay-as-you-go basis.

"We're starting out with a pair of ground stations today, and will have 12 in operation by mid-2019".

Amazon is already putting its machine learning skills to the test in conjunction with Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. It delivers the entire VMware Software-Defined Data Centre (SDDC) - compute, storage, and networking infrastructure - to run on-premises.

Medical care search company Zocdoc is using AWS machine learning services in the healthcare sector. This covers AWS' GovCloud and Secret Regions across almost every data classification.

It turns out, however, that building and managing a data lake is a complex and time-consuming process that requires customers to load data from diverse sources, set up buckets and partitions, clean and prepare data, configure and enforce security policies across a range of services, granularly configure access control settings, and more. The service can be applied in Finance, Manufacturing, Insurance, HR & Payroll and Retail & Supply Chain. They will use Elastic Block Storage, but other AWS services won't be available initially.

Amazon SageMaker Neo, meanwhile, allows machine learning models to trained once and run in the cloud or on connected devices at the network edge with twice the performance and no loss in accuracy, AWS said. As a result, developers no longer need to spend time hand tuning their trained models for each and every hardware platform (saving time and expense). "By removing common challenges associated with reinforcement learning, giving developers the chance to have some fun, and providing them a complete autonomous model racing auto along with AWS machine learning services like Amazon SageMaker, we are putting every developer in position to experiment with reinforcement learning and machine learning". "With QLDB, your data's change history is immutable - it cannot be altered or deleted - and using cryptography, you can easily verify that there have been no unintended modifications to your application's data".

The new offering positions Amazon well to compete with other analytics service providers - perhaps most notably, UnitedHealthcare's Optum - and to support its still-unnamed partnership with JP Morgan Chase and Berkshire Hathaway. (AWS), an company (NASDAQ:AMZN), launched the AWS DeepRacer League (DRL), the first global, autonomous racing league, open to everyone.

Using the new AWS-Optimized TensorFlow and P3dn instances, developers can now train the popular ResNet-50 model in only 14 minutes, the fastest time recorded, and 50 percent faster than the previous best time.
