Mickelson made a 4-foot birdie putt to defeat Woods on the 22nd hole. Both have already committed to $200,000 for the first shot.

Both players were short of their best from the outset, particularly on the slick greens, with Mickelson's birdie at the 13th the only putt of note finding the bottom of the cup in a battle that eventually lasted a shade under five hours.

However, the mediocre golf continued as Woods hit his approach to 80 feet and Mickelson came up short in a green-side bunker.

Woods' moment of magic tied it up at 17 against Mickelson. "And I believe - in fact I'm willing to risk $100,000 that says I birdie the first hole".

Tiger smirked and commented, "That hurts the pocket".
