LeBron's 25 helps Lakers crown Kings

There's one working theory of why the Suns granted Chandler the buyout now instead of in February or March when the traditional wave of buyouts occur: Phoenix interim GM James Jones was a longtime teammate of LeBron's in Miami and Cleveland. "He did right by Tyson as a veteran". The Lakers kept the pace up against their tired rivals from Sacramento, getting quality minutes from Chandler, Stephenson, Rajon Rondo, Josh Hart, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope off the bench. He's 36 and in his 18th season while Garnett still had great years left in him at age 31.

In his first game with the Lakers, Chandler grabbed nine rebounds and played key defense down the stretch in helping them beat Minnesota, 114-110, Wednesday night at Staples Center. A California powerhouse versus the 10th place Lakers, so who's got the edge and what should you watch for?

"He was very, very excited", James said.

His last visit was a personal success when he recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 14 assists last December, but the Kings prevailed over Cleveland 109-95 behind 24 points from another National Basketball Association legend, Vince Carter.

"LeBron is the greatest player of our generation", Chandler said. "He's an incredible leader".

The game wasn't always pretty and didn't feature the scoring that was expected out of two teams who thrive on flying up and down the floor, but the Lakers will gladly take the win. Chandler brings another leader to a young locker room along with James and Rajon Rondo while also adding championship pedigree and playoff experience.

LeBron James #23 of the Los Angeles Lakers walks on the court during a stop in play in a preseason game against the Golden State Warriors at T-Mobile Arena on October 10, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. So while he is a veteran leader, presence in the locker room, can still play and helped give Ayton a foundation to begin his career, Chandler was coming off the bench and could no longer be the game-changer Phoenix needed.
