Mourinho hails ‘fantastic’ United comeback

While it'd be a disservice to Manchester United's first-half performance to call their 2-1 victory over Juventus a "smash and grab", it was unexpected.

The 25-year-old, who scored a quick-fire double in last season's equivalent fixture to help United to a comeback win over City, has what the press is describing as a "little injury".

"All derbies are special, I think in Spain there is more noise than here but special, special for everybody", he said. "And especially there is always a lot of negative comments about us but hopefully they might say something positive for once, because I think we deserve it, the team deserve it, the manager deserves it for getting this awesome result. I simply said that he didn't need to make those gestures". I didn't insult them.

Ronaldo faced United for the fourth time in the Champions League since departing Old Trafford and was on hand to open the scoring for Juventus in the 65th minute.

The Red Devils came from 1-0 down to secure a 2-1 win over Juventus after Juan Mata's free-kick and Alex Sandro's own goal to cancel out Cristiano Ronaldo's opener.

"Juventus have phenomenal players", he added. "But they're a good rival and it's a good chance to get three points and move them away".

A series of allegations published by German magazine Der Spiegel in recent days claim City attempted to bypass UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations, but the English champions showed no signs of distraction as they swatted the Ukrainian aside and took control of Group F.

Sami Khedira and Paulo Dybala both hit the woodwork before five-time Ballon d'Or victor Ronaldo brought the capacity 41 470 crowd to their feet when he hammered home Bonucci's long pass from just inside United's half.

"They are a fantastic team with an wonderful record at home". I hope we arrive on time!

Earlier this week Mourinho learned that he could still face a domestic touchline ban following alleged misconduct after United's game against Newcastle in October.

"The team is doing well both in the league and the Champions League and we're going to keep working hard in order to go very far".
