NBC Ends Megyn Kelly's 'TODAY' Show Run

NBC Ends Megyn Kelly's 'TODAY' Show Run

Long before NBC pulled Megyn Kelly's show from its morning schedule over her recent comments about blackface, the controversial TV personality made headlines over her criticisms of Britney Spears.

"An NBC spokesperson has finally said, "'Megyn Kelly Today' is not returning". The former Fox News anchor took over the cherished post-Today time slot from Tamron Hall and Al Roker's third hour of Today in September of that year. "And I think that what her boss said the other day is that this is just a really unfortunate situation, and you know that's their call to make". It was just the beginning of what's since become a slew of controversies dogging Kelly since she joined the network. "When I was a kid, that was OK as long as you were dressing up as like a character".

Some staffers at NBC were skeptical of Kelly when news broke that she would leave Fox for their network. At the same time, her former association with Fox caused some NBC colleagues and viewers to regard her with suspicion. Even if she never lands another job - she reportedly wants to return to Fox News, but the network seems unwilling to hire her back - that is more money than most people will ever see in their lifetime.

"The fact is, while she apologized to the staff, she owes a bigger apology to folks of color around the country", Roker said Wednesday. She did not host new episodes of "Megyn Kelly Today" as scheduled on Thursday and Friday. In October 2017, Kelly ran into some early trouble on her show when she conducted an awkward interview with Jane Fonda.

Kelly is in the middle of the second year of a three-year contract, which reportedly pays her more than US$20 million a year.

"Today" aired a segment about Kelly's comments, which included critical tweets and a clip of Kelly's 2013 on-air comments on Fox News insisting that Santa Claus was white. The report also added that Kelly had separated from her talent agency. It was inspired by her work with Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign, she said.

Kelly did not appear on the show Thursday morning, and the network said it would be airing reruns for the rest of the week. "I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. That's hard to overcome, and then especially moving to daytime, she had a number of hurdles to jump over".

Later that day, Debra Messing, who plays Grace Adler on the show, took to Instagram to say she regretted going on the show hosted by Kelly - and was "dismayed" by her comments.
