Another caveat of buying the Verizon variant, even from a different retailer such as Best Buy, is that Verizon linked Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL handsets won't automatically work on other carriers unless they are activated on Verizon first. The trick seems to be waiting for a day for Verizon to automatically unlock it. As well as those who had already received their order but were unable to use the device due to the issue.

The excellent Google Pixel 3 just hit stores this week, and we don't blame you if you're clamoring to grab one. Initial Pixel 3 XL rumors claimed it would also feature LG-made OLED panels but those have turned out to be false.

When asked specifically if this means that they have removed the lock on Pixel 3 phones, they confirmed that to be the case. This is unlike the previous year Pixel family that had the larger, Pixel 2 XL with a panel from LG and the smaller, Pixel 2 with a Samsung display. Verizon's policy on the matter is also rather unclear at the moment.

Google's flagship smartphone launch as nothing short of a disaster a year ago, with the LG-made Pixel 2 XL marred with problems. Google Pixel 3 does not sport a notch though, unlike the bigger Pixel 3 XL. But rest assured that Verizon is likely to bring the restrictions back online at some point.

The telco has announced that both the Pixel smartphones - Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL have arrived on the Airtel online store.

Google's latest phone officially launched yesterday, and for the third time, Verizon is the only carrier selling the new Pixels directly.
