Air India Express aircraft hits wall at Trichy airport, all passengers safe

The Mumbai International Airport Limited ( MIAL) too issued a statement withdrawing the full emergency situation it had declared earlier. The matter was conveyed to the pilot in command.

All 136 passengers and crew aboard the Boeing 737 landed safely at another airport and were put on another flight to Dubai, officials said.

On hearing about the incident Tamil Nadu Tourism Minister N. Natarajan visited the airport and inspected the damage.

A similar incident was reported two days back, on October 10, when an Air India flight, which took off from Delhi with 190 people on board, suffered a hydraulic leak before landing at New York's JFK Airport on Wednesday.

The fortunate passengers of Air India Flight IX 611 were moved to a different aircraft, which then took for Dubai with a fresh crew.

After the incident internal inquiry has been set up, pilot&co-pilot derostered till investigation is done.

The Air India flight which had 130 passengers and six crew members onboard took off from the Trichy airport at around 1.30 am.

Later it was decided that the plane, which had "rose to high altitude" on its way to Dubai, would be diverted to Mumbai as a precaution.

"It was made a decision to divert the aircraft to Mumbai as a precautionary measure". The plane was landed in Mumbai and taxied to the parking stand. It said it had informed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation about the incident. "Safety of passengers is of paramount importance for us", the Minister said. The flight's first officer Anurag has an experience of 3,000 hours on the B 737 aircraft.

"The airline is fully cooperating with the investigation", it added.
