Nigeria's opposition PDP picks Atiku to challenge Buhari

The frontrunners include former vice president Atiku Abubakar, who has made four previous attempts at the top job, Senate president Bukola Saraki, governor of northern Sokoto state Aminu Tambuwal and Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former governor in northern Kano state. A landmark event in the sense that since the rebranding of our great party, the PDP, and infact I daresay, since the return of democratic rule of governance in this country, we have witnessed the most credible transparent and fair primaries.

"And all of us are speaking to ourselves as speaking to each other". "We are only working with you (Mr Abubakar) to victory".

The Governor also stated that no single person can influence the outcome of the national convention.

Aisha Buhari, wife of Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has censured the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over what she says was the rule by impunity and manipulation.

"We are with you and confident that with us as a team May 29 2019 will be a day that our party will take over".

Mr Dankwambo scored 111 votes at the convention.

It said the PDP nomination would be a tight race between Abubakar and Tambuwal.

"I can not do it alone, I need your support, your assistance, I need your understanding and I need your participation".

The Eurasia Consultancy group said in a statement Saturday the outcome of the PDP primary would determine whether Buhari "loses his incumbency advantage".

Mr Abubakar, who spoke without a prepared script, commended his challengers, saying they showed "a sense of unity, a sense of objective and a sense of commitment".

Meanwhile, members of the PDP have presently gathered at Adokiye Amiesiekema Stadium, Port Harcourt, for the party's convention.

The national chairman also promised Nigerians an all-inclusive government if the party's candidate is elected as president.
