Lindsey Graham: Trump should renominate Kavanaugh if Senate fails to confirm him

President Donald Trump for the first time directly mocked Christine Blasey Ford's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee by casting doubt on her testimony during a campaign rally. "Cindy always has my back, which means she always has your back", Trump said in prepared remarks for the rally.

Trump mocked Ford at a rally in MS on Tuesday night, listing what he described as holes in her account as his audience laughed.

"What neighbourhood was it in?" I don't know. Where's the house? She said that Smyth, like Keyser, was downstairs at the house when the alleged attack took place upstairs.

"I had one beer". Kavanaugh denied the accusation, as well as allegations by two other women of sexual misconduct in the 1980s.

The president warned about a risky and "damn sad situation" in the country where a man's life can be destroyed over accusations over misconduct and are assumed guilty instead of innocent. It's just not right. "I wish he hadn't had done it", Sen.

"With all of that you can not say that we've done anything but be respectful, and I do".

US President Donald Trump has told reporters that it is a "difficult" and "scary" time for young men in the US. Ludington said Kavanaugh had mischaracterized the extent of his drinking at Yale.

Trump's fellow Republicans control the Senate by a 51-49 margin.

Hundreds of protesters rallied on Monday at Boston's City Hall where Senator Jeff Flake was speaking at a conference, their chants audible in the distance as the Arizona Republican was asked about his dramatic decision last week to press for an FBI investigation into the allegations against Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh's confirmation hinges on a handful of key Republican and Democratic senators who have not yet fully tipped their votes.

Kavanaugh has denied Swetnick and Ford's claims.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised Tuesday that a vote would happen on Kavanaugh's nomination by the end of the week regardless of what the FBI finds in its investigation into the allegations against the nominee. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and other lawmakers, the Senate last Friday agreed the FBI could investigate for up to a week, meaning its deadline is this Friday. "She deserves better", the California Democrat wrote on Twitter after Trump's speech. With Republicans defending majorities in the House and Senate next month, officials cast Trump's visit as an attempt to get ahead of a potentially perilous situation. White House adviser Kellyanne Conway told Fox News that "the president is pointing out factual inconsistencies".

Opinions of Ford's testimony - on social media and television networks - were that she was powerful and believable.

Flake said he would ensure it's a "real investigation", by the FBI as Democrats demanded that Trump give them a full readout of his instructions to the agency.

The fight over Kavanaugh's nomination has been unusually emotional and has unfolded just weeks ahead of November 6 elections in which Democrats are trying to seize control of Congress from Republicans. This, of course, is late-night TV gold, and Tuesday's Late Show got things started with a special Kavanaugh version UB40's hit cover of "Red Red Wine". "This is all part of the organised effort to delay, obstruct and intimidate, including those of us who will be voting this week". "As far as I can tell they already have those folks", he said.

Trump on Tuesday changed his tune about Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who said Brett Kavanaugh pushed her onto a bed, groped her and tried to remove her clothes when they were teenagers. Judge has previously denied any memory of such an incident. A third claim - from Julia Swetnick, who is represented by attorney Michael Avenatti - accuses Kavanaugh of excessive drinking and inappropriate treatment of women at parties in the early 1980s.
