Scholes 'surprised' Mourinho remained in job, says manager is 'embarrassing' club

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is embarrassing the club, according to former midfielder Paul Scholes.

Paul Pogba stung the palms of goalkeeper Neto with a free-kick as United at last began to increase the pressure in the second half, but a scarcity of any sort of link-up between the front three meant the Brazilian was largely untested.

The 43-year-old former England global has been a stern critic of Mourinho and did not hold back ahead of United's clash with Valencia on Tuesday night.

The final whistle was greeted by boos from the home fans, and in the end it was a performance which will invite yet more questions as to the problems at Old Trafford, with United still without a home win since August 10 and Mourinho having gone four home games without victory for the first time in his managerial career.

Mourinho last went at least three games without a home in 2013-14, when his Chelsea side lost consecutive games to Sunderland and Atletico Madrid before drawing 0-0 with Norwich.

"The performance was that bad".

"He's coming out in press conferences constantly having a go at players, having a go at the people above for not getting what he wants".

The United boss recently claimed his side can't attack in the same fashion as Manchester City or Liverpool because they don't have the same defensive solidity.

Sir Alex Ferguson used to say Manchester United was a bus that waits for no man.

"I think his mouth is probably out of control and I think he is embarrassing the club".

And he admits he did not expect Jose Mourinho to still be in charge after Saturday's result.

The latest of which came at the London Stadium on Saturday, where West Ham ran out 3-1 winners over the Red Devils.
