Trio of storms churns in the Atlantic

Based on the latest advisory from the National Hurricane Center, the earliest reasonable arrival of tropical storm force winds in SC is Thursday afternoon.

Forecasters on Friday warned of flash flooding and wind gusts of 25 to 40 miles per hour. "Although Isaac is forecast to begin weakening when it approaches the Lesser Antilles, it is still expected to be at or near hurricane intensity when it reaches the islands".

All watches and warnings were discontinued yesterday. Little change in strength is expected over the next several hours.

At 8 a.m., the center of the storm was 25 miles east of Dominica.

The specialists refer to the probability that it will be reoriented towards the British Isles in an extratropical cyclone condition.

Also spinning in the Atlantic are Tropical Storms Helene and Isaac and Subtropical Storm Joyce, while Tropical Depression Olivia and Super Typhoon Mangkhut are making waves in the Pacific.

Tropical storm force winds from Isaac expected soon at Leeward Islands.

A turn to the west-northwest is possible early next week if Isaac survives.

While a tropical storm watch is in effect for St. Kitts and Nevis, at Pond Hill, Nevis, forecaster Harry W. Hallstrom said, "Isaac is getting ripped apart with wind shear".

On that path Isaac will move across the central Lesser Antilles and into the Caribbean on Thursday.

"A life-threatening storm surge is highly likely along portions of the coastline of SC and North Carolina, and a Storm Surge Warning is in effect for a portion of this area", the National Hurricane Center said Wednesday.

Four named tropical systems were spinning in the Atlantic Ocean on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018.

Friday's expected landfall near the NC/SC border will cause Florence to weaken as it interacts with the coast.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 949 mb (28.03 inches).

This alert is provided by Tropical Storm Risk (TSR).
