We're also expecting to see a new and improved Apple Watch with an edge-to-edge display; updated, waterproof AirPods; and the possibility of an improved MacBook Air.

By making more expensive iPhones, Apple has been able to boost its profits despite waning demand as people upgrade phones less frequently.

A product sitemap XML file, first discovered by ATH before being removed by Apple, contains a long list of URLs for upcoming Apple products.

Apple's special event is happening today, September 12, at 10a Pacific Time.

The strategy is working, helping Apple become the first publicly traded US company to hit a market value of more than $1 trillion earlier this year. Last year's iPhone X - pronounced "ten" - represented a major redesign.

The handset very much looks like an upgraded iPhone X, sporting a stainless steel design and 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch Super Retina OLED displays, the latter of which is the biggest to ever be on an iPhone. Following that, industry watchers say the new phones could be spoken as "Tennis Max", "Tennis" and "Tenner".

Two of the iPhone models predicted to debut on Wednesday were expected to have prices higher than the iPhone X, which has been a hot seller.

The UK price is expected to be in line with the dollar price as Apple has typically retailed its phones for the exact same amount in sterling as it has in dollars.

A third, lower cost model is also expected to be announced - with a 6.1-inch screen and the same A12 processor as the other iPhones, but lower storage options, less RAM, a single 12-megapixel camera, a lower resolution screen and a smaller battery.

"Apple has never competed on price", said Josh Blechman, director of capital markets at Exponential ETFs, which holds Apple shares in its exchange traded fund.

Regardless of the phones, the real star of Apple's launch event on Wednesday evening was the Apple Watch Series 4, which, despite being a relative squib on its release, has begun to corner the market as a health wearable.

Executives made the announcement at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple's new circular headquarters in Cupertino, California, named after the company's co-founder who wowed the world with the first iPhone in 2007.

The leak also shows multiple cases for the new iPhones.

With the new launches, Apple is hoping to expand its market share in the increasingly competitive smart-phone space.
