That said, Emirates officials reportedly told US officials that only 10 people were ill and believes this incident was caused by food poisoning.

Some sick passengers were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Centre with non- life-threatening conditions, according to a New York City Fire Department spokesman.

Customs and Border Protection officials told NBC San Diego that the sick passengers all originated from Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where there was recently a flu outbreak.

News broke on Wednesday that an Emirates flight was quarantined at JFK Airport, and it turns out Vanilla Ice was among those onboard. Reportedly, all of the sick passengers were sitting on the bottom floor of the double decker flight.

Ten people have tested positive for influenza after being hospitalized when their plane landed at Kennedy Airport, the mayor's office announced Thursday.

Sykes and many other passengers were held on the plane for an additional two hours after the 13-hour flight landed in the USA shortly after 9 a.m. ET.

Vanilla later tweeted, "This is insane".

The heavy emergency response was enacted after about 10 passengers and crew members reported feeling ill.

The Emirates flight arriving at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday was swarmed by police vehicles and ambulances and immediately quarantined for an assessment by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Eric Phillips, press secretary for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, said 19 people were evaluated for illness on the ground.

The plane was taken to a "hard standing area", where paramedics and officials from the CDC were responding to the scene, the Port Authority source said.

The rest of the passengers from the two flights were allowed to continue on to their destination, he said, adding that the CDC would provide further information when tests results were confirmed.
