Here's your first official look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

We've had leaks of Brie Larson as the titular character, but EW is in full-on promotion mode and will be dropping the first official looks at the hero throughout the week. This will be the first time a superheroine will lead a Marvel film.

Cape Town - Brie Larson as Captain Marvel is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly's latest issue and it's epic on an intergalactic level.

However it will throwback to characters seen in recent Avengers movies including Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Djimon Hounsou as Korath and Lee Pace as Ronan The Accuser. Such is the case with Captain Marvel, which will include the character of Mar-Vell alongside Carol Danvers, both of whom take on the name of Captain Marvel in the comics.

"Captain Marvel, which hits theaters on March 8, 2018, is directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, and unlike many other MCU movies marking a character's cinematic debut, it will "[sidestep] the traditional origin-story template", according to Entertainment Weekly. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.

The one thing that Marvel and Entertainment Weekly didn't show us? Captain Marvel will be Marvel Stuidos' 21st feature, and is poised to be the first female led film for the studio.

EW, being the cheeky scamps they are, have something "Marvel-ous" in mind.

Carol Danvers left Earth to join an elite military team called Starforce on the planet Hala, home to the Kree people. She has a little problem with aggression and following orders, like so many cocky Air Force pilots we've seen on the big screen.

Brie added, "She's also quick to jump to things, which makes her wonderful in battle because she's the first one out there and doesn't always wait for orders". We get a couple of looks at Mar-Vell in this batch of images. But who is Carol looking at with so much anger and attraction in her eyes?

Wouldn't it be a shame if those Starforce jammies were suddenly incinerated and Captain Marvel and her incredibly well-preserved mentor had to make out to save the universe from ... something?
