Ronaldo sprinkles star dust on Juventus in intimate opener

Cristiano Ronaldo collects the ball from the goal in his first game for Juventus.

Ronaldo started the match and marked the occasion with a goal before an own goal and a quick fire brace from Paulo Dybala gave Juventus a commandable lead heading into the break.

The town's bars and restaurants were heaving with fans and media hours before the match's 1700 (1500 GMT kick off, 6pm EAT), with fans in replica kits wrapped in scarves and flags arriving to see the five-times Ballon d'Or victor take part in one of Italian football's most curious traditions.

The former Real Madrid striker played in his first match for Juventus in a friendly against the club's B team at Villar Perosa.

"I've been coming here since I was 12 years old back in the 1960s, when (Gianni) Agnelli would arrive here in a helicopter", he said.

And he took just eight minutes to find the net in his first appearance in a Juve shirt.

How many goals do you think Ronaldo will score this season?

"With the arrival of Ronaldo our expectations are higher for the Champions League".

He was all alone and finished into the left side of the goal easily.

Ronaldo and Juan Cuadrado were then frustrated in front of goal, but Dybala took advantage of their misses to convert for Juve's fourth on 40 minutes.

As is custom, the game was interrupted in the second half for a pitch invasion and the game ended with Juventus picking up a comfortable win. Ronaldo was mobbed as fans attempted to grab a selfie with him.

The friendly, which takes place annually, represented Juventus' final test before they kick-off their Serie A title defence against Chievo next Saturday.
