Asked if nothing would happen in or out before the Premier League deadline at 5pm, he said: "The information I have is no (nothing will happen)".

"I am not focused on back-to-back".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says he is "not confident" of signing another player before Thursday's transfer deadline at 17:00 BST.

Mourinho said it was "time to stop thinking about the market" and, unless there is a dramatic change throughout the day, that means United will be trying to win their first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson's final season without the new centre-half that the manager had identified as a priority.

Mourinho had warned it would be a "difficult season" if United did not make any more acquisitions and it now looks like his side will miss out.

"I also think the goalkeeper is a massive signing for them, one which I think will give them the confidence to go forward again and challenge Manchester City".

Those issues have provided an unwelcome backdrop to a hard pre-season, United's makeshift side having suffered defeats to Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

The lack of new signings will compound issues surrounding his squad for the start of the Premier League season.

"[Alexis is] more than ready but you can not have the players who arrived only last Monday after the World Cup semi-finals or final and three weeks' holiday".

"Because it is very important their feeling and to understand how they think they can help or not help".

"Is hard for me to understand, to feel, to believe we finish second".

"And it is sometimes hard to believe, that I won eight championships and three Premier Leagues but I keep feeling that the second last season was one of my biggest achievements in the game".
