Tampa Mother Who Dropped Daughter In River To Remain In Jail

A woman accused of throwing her 4-year-old daughter into a Florida river to drown has been denied bail on first-degree murder charges.

"Witnesses say she waded into the Hillsborough River with her child".

A member of the TPD dive team discovered the unconscious child underwater at about 4:30 p.m., according to police.

Je'Hyrah was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A Tampa woman has been arrested after she allegedly threw her child into a river.

Police allege Denson, 26, had just stolen a Nissan Altima from an auto fix shop.

WFLA reported that witnesses told police Denson stole a auto from a vehicle lot, forced her daughter into the back seat, drove to the Hillsborough River, then dragged the screaming girl into the water and released her.

Tampa police say 26-year-old Shakayla Denson threw 4-year-old Je'Hyrah Daniels into the water around 4 p.m.

A bystander who witnessed the horrifying incident told the Tampa Bay Times how Denson 'dragged the screaming girl by the arm toward the river and then into the water'.

From her third-floor condominium unit near the river, Vicki Walker took cellphone images of the curious site of a woman in the water and shared the pictures with Tampa Bay television station WFTS. They were by themselves in the river so I don't know why I took a picture.

"They were fully clothed which was the other very odd thing to me". Two witnesses said the child was "forcefully pushed" into the backseat.

Denson was walking nearby and was arrested.

"Our hearts hurt for the loss of Je'Hyrah Daniels".

In January 2015, a father allegedly threw his 5-year-old daughter off the Dick Misener Bridge in St. Petersburg.

The identity of the woman and child have not been released at this time.
