Moto Z3 Unboxing and First Look!

Moto Z3 Unboxing and First Look!

Lenovo and Motorola unveiled the new Verizon Moto Z3 and a 5G Moto Mod yesterday.

Motorola had teased a product launch event to be held on August 2nd at its headquarters in Chicago. Google, which had a greater ambition for modular phones and LG, which tried modular phones once, have both given up on the idea. Along with the new phone, Motorola has launched a launched a 5G Moto Mod which is said to boost up network speeds by ten times.

On the specification front, the new Moto Z3 flagship smartphone comes with a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 2160X1080 pixel of resolution. Moto Z3 can be bought for $20 per month for 24 months and Motorola is offering up to $300 off on the phone under its device payment plan.

Powered by the not-so-latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, the Moto Z3 is backed by a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It's not coincidental that the 5G Moto Mod won't be available until then at an undisclosed price.

The handset's rear camera cluster includes a 12-MP main shooter with an f/2 lens, paired with another 12-MP monochrome array for depth-sensing duties and other computational photography tasks like bokeh effects.

The Moto Z3 is a souped-up version of the Z3 Play that went official earlier this year.

For now, however, the Moto Z3 is essentially just a souped up Moto Z3 Play. On the software front, it runs Android 8.1 Oreo. Moto Z3 and 5G Moto Mod are exclusive to Verizon in the US. It'll be for Verizon's 5G network, and it will come "early in 2019", according to Verizon network chief Nicola Palmer. Moto Z3 comes with a water-repellent coating for splashes.

What's preventing out-of-the-box compatibility for all phones that support Moto Mods is unclear at this point, and beyond that, the accessory's release is still months off. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port. Also, the new Android phone, as it is now, can't do 5G for another reason. The Moto Z3 comes in only one colour model - Ceramic Black.

The 5G Mod's got a little antenna bump at the top there. But it is quite likely that the Moto Z3 will soon launch in India. The Z3 even shares some of the Z3 Play's once-unique features as well, like the side-mounted fingerprint scanner that's easily accessible with your thumb or your index finger. There is now no information about the eagerly awaited Motorola One Power and the Moto One smartphones.
