Arturo Vidal: Barcelona reach agreement with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder

The Chilean midfielder had been linked to numerous clubs over the last few weeks, including Inter Milan, Chelsea and Manchester United, but after three years at Bayern Munich he has made the switch to Spain.

Vidal was allegedly first approached by Barca as recently as a week ago, quickly reaching an agreement over his wages and a €30 million (A$47 million) transfer fee with Bayern.

Vidal trained with his Bayern Munich team-mates on Thursday for the last time before making the move to the Spanish champions.

His arrival will make up for the surprise departure of Brazilian midfielder Paulinho, who Barcelona loaned to Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.

The former Bayer Leverkusen player said on Bayern's official website: "Thanks to FC Bayern and all the fans".

Vidal will reportedly earn around nine million euros per season with the Spanish giants. However, injuries last season limited him to just 22 Bundesliga appearances, pushing Bayern to let him go.

Barca have already signed Arthur, Malcom and Clement Lenglet this summer, while Andres Iniesta, Paulinho, Lucas Digne and Gerard Deulofeu are among those who have left the Nou Camp.

However, new Bayern boss Niko Kovac is keen to trim his squad and felt his options were bloated in midfield.

The 31-year-old midfielder was whisked away from Bayern's pre-season base on Friday morning with the club's director of sport Hasan Salihamidzic, reportedly to finalise details.
