Man with world's longest fingernails gets them cut after 66 years

He had made a decision to grow his nails when he was scolded by his school teacher as a result of accidentally breaking the teacher's long nail.

Chillal recently travelled from India to New York City to have his nails removed for a museum display at Ripley's Believe It Or Not.

The teacher said Mr Chillal would never understand what it took to take care of long fingernails and the student set out to prove his teacher wrong, going on to dedicate his life to taking care of his claws. His fingernail exhibit will be officially unveiled at Ripley's Believe It or Not!

After growing his fingernails for 66 YEARS, the man with the world's longest fingernails has finally had them cut - and they've gone on display in NY!

He stopped cutting his left-hand fingernails in 1952, after a teacher scolded him for roughhousing with a friend and accidentally breaking off the teacher's fingernail.

"When I chose to cut my nails, it was hard for me to make this decision", he said.

Chillal, who has held the Guinness record since 1979, when the nails on his left hand measured a total 86.5 inches, had grown out his nails to a total 29 feet, 10.1 inches when they were clipped.

Chillal's teacher's words proved true, the world-record holder said he had to take delicate care of his nails and he took care of them for a lifetime.

Adjudicators noted his thumbnail measured an unbelievable 197.8cm and curled into a tight coil at the end. They together stretched about 30 feet, or the length of a bus, before he finally had them cut on Wednesday.

He only grew the nails on his left hand. I spent 66 years of my life on my nails. He can not open his hand from a closed position or flex his fingers, the statement said. "Times Square", Ripley's Believe It or Not!

He admitted there were also perks to having the world's longest nails that he will miss.
