Late-Night Hosts Tee Off on Opening of US Embassy in Jerusalem

As a smiling Ivanka took photos in front of the new embassy, bearing a large plaque with Trump's name splashed across it, she was joined husband Jared Kushner and other USA officials including Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.

On The Late Show on CBS, host Stephen Colbert joked of the break with tradition, "Now we just have to destabilize Antarctica, and we'll have global-crisis bingo". "'We are, I'm so excited to announce we're moving the embassy in Italy to where it rightfully belongs - Italy City, '" he said, mocking the president. But according to the USA ambassador to Israel, the act of moving the embassy sends the message to Israel that 'You are not alone'. "Those people had families too", Bette Midler tweeted, before sending a second tweet claiming the president lost the "PR advantage".

The comedian said that Trump couldn't attend the opening in Jerusalem, "so, instead, he sent Peace Treaty Barbie and Collusion Ken", i.e. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

That jab referred to, of course, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and the quip was met with cheers and applause from the audience.

At the ceremony in Jerusalem, Jared Kushner spoke to the crowd, saying, "When there is peace in this region, we will look back upon this day and remember that the journey to peace started with a strong America, recognizing the truth". "He's got a little cold", Colbert joked. When questioned about Trump's sexual assault accusers earlier this year, Ivanka bristled and said that it was not an appropriate question to ask about her father. "Like, 'Sorry buddy, you gotta be 21.' 'That's no way to talk to the president of the United States".
